Waffle Stitch Crochet Tutorial

The waffle stitch stitch is one of my all time favourites! Even though it looks textured and complex, it’s actually a pretty easy stitch to master. In fact, the simple 2 row repeat only uses the double crochet stitch.

Waffle stitch description

The waffle stitch is a solid crochet stitch with no gaps making it perfect for making warm items. The modern crochet stitch is suitable for pretty much everyone’s taste. The texture is beautiful and as the name suggests, it closely resembles the look of a waffle! The waffle stitch is non-reversible, the back will look different from the front. See pics below.

How it’s made

The waffle stitch tutorial is written as a crochet pattern with photos for clarity. Its a simple two row repeat and to complete the tutorial you will need to know the double crochet stitch, and you will need to know how to work into the front posts. You can use any yarn with its recommended crochet hook size to complete the tutorial.

Abbreviations

ch – Chain

dc – Double crochet

FP – Front post

Gauge / Tension

Not applicable for this tutorial due to yarn variations. I recommending making a small swatch of the waffle stitch and measuring the size before beginning a large project.

Pattern notes

I do not count chains in my stitch count.

Stitches separated with a comma are to be made in separate spaces eg. (sc, dc) would mean sc in first stitch then dc in next stitch.

Supplies

You will need the following supplies to complete the crochet project (links will take you directly to my recommended supplies)
