Shell stitch description

The shell stitch is reversible and looks identical on both sides. It’s a solid stitch with small gaps. The shell stitch looks great on clothing, blankets, bags, pretty much everything!

How it’s made

The shell stitch tutorial is easy-intermediate skill level. Its a pretty simple two row repeat and to complete the tutorial you will need to know the single crochet stitch and the double crochet stitch. You can use any yarn with its recommended crochet hook size to complete the tutorial.

ch – Chain

2dc – 2 double crochet in 1 space (increase)

5dc – 5 double crochet in 1 space (shell)

sc – Single crochet

Gauge / Tension

Not applicable for this tutorial due to yarn variations. I recommending making a small swatch of the shell stitch and measuring the size before beginning a large project.

Pattern notes

Stitches separated with a comma are to be made in separate spaces eg. (sc, dc) would mean sc in first stitch then dc in next stitch.

If changing colours between rows, change yarn while completing the last stitch of the row.

You will need the following supplies to complete the crochet project (links will take you directly to my recommended supplies)

– Crochet hooks

– Any yarn
