Pumpkin crochet pattern

This pumpkin crochet pattern will help you create crochet pumpkins in 2 different sizes. They make beautiful decorations for autumn/fall, Halloween or Thanksgiving. By all means you can make as little it as many as you like, although I chose to make 3 to create a little display ready for Halloween. What’s more everyone commented on how beautiful they looked! So I also made crochet pumpkin bunting to match. You can find that crochet pattern here.

Pumpkin description

The pumpkins have a lovely ribbed texture. Although I decided to make mine with mustard and orange yarn I’m sure they would also look great in other colours too! In detail the small pumpkin measures 6cm tall by 10cm wide. Then the medium crochet pumpkin is a little larger and measures 8cm tall by 11cm wide. With this in mind I used DK yarn with the recommended hook size. Obviously, if you decided to use a different weight yarn as well as a different sized hook your pumpkins would subsequently differ in size.

How to crochet a pumpkin

The pumpkin crochet pattern is beginner friendly. Although you will also need some knowledge of sewing to complete the project. Nevertheless, the pumpkins work and quickly and are super easy to make. Where as I used DK yarn to make mine, this pumpkin crochet pattern is equally suitable for other yarn weights. As long as you use the recommended hook displayed on the packaging. As well as your chosen yarn and a crochet hook, you’ll also need some toy stuffing and a tapestry needle to complete the pattern.

Gauge

Gauge is important as everyone crochets with a different tension. If your 2” swatch doesn’t match up you can change your hook size to suit your tension.

4mm hook – 2” x 2” square = 7 rows of 9 hdc

Pattern notes

I do not count chains in my stitch count

Numbers in brackets are the number of rounds/stitches in that round)

Stitches separated with a comma are to made in separate spaces eg. (sc, inc) would mean sc in first stitch then inc in next stitch
