How to crochet a reversible turtle

The reversible turtle crochet pattern is easy skill level. Kids will have hours of fun with this crochet sea creature toy! The crochet turtle is made in no time using super bulky blanket yarn. You’ll also need some safety eyes and toy stuffing for his heads. Yes, this turtle has 2 heads! To complete the amigurumi project you will need to know the single crochet stitch and have some basic sewing skills.

  • Brand: Marriner get cosy blanket yarn
  • A: Fern (green) – 30 yards
  • B: Coral Reef (multicolour) – 30 yards
  • C: Beige – 39 yards
  • Total: 99 yards

Abbreviations

USA Terminology (UK Translation)

  • BLO – Back loop only
  • ch – Chain
  • FLO – Front loop only
  • MR – Magic ring
  • R – Round/Row
  • sc – Single crochet
  • 2sc – 2 sc in 1 space (increase)
  • sc2tog – sc 2 together (decrease)
  • sl st – Slip stitch
  • st/sts – Stitch/Stitches

Sizes & Gauge

  • 4” x 4” gauge swatch = 8 rows of 8 sc
  • Finished size – Width 7.5″ x Length 9″ x Height 5″

Pattern notes

  • Chains and slip stitches are not included in stitch count.
  • Stitches separated with a comma are to be made in separate spaces. EG. “sc, dc” would mean “single crochet in first space, double crochet in the next space”.
  • Use tapestry eyes only for babies or young children.

Round 1
  • sc x 8 into a magic ring
  • sl st to first st & ch x 1
  • Do not weave in MR tails

  • Gap of 10 sts between front feet
  • Gap of 3 sts between front & back feet
  • Gap of 4 sts between back feet

Turtles heads

Make 2 heads using beige yarn.

Round 1
  • sc x 8 in a magic ring
  • sl st to first st & ch x 1

  • 2sc x 8
  • sl st to first st & ch x 1

Round 3 – 5
  • sc x 16
  • sl st to first st & ch x 1

3 rounds

  • Add safety eyes to R4, 7 stitches apart
  • Fill with toy stuffing
