Elizabeth Stitch Crochet Tutorial

The crochet stitch gives the most amazing texture! It’s a 1 row repeat made using the mini bean stitch. It sounds quite intimidating but it really is easy enough when you get the hang of the new stitch.

Elizabeth stitch tutorial

The Elizabeth stitch is also known as the mini bean stitch. The pattern looks identical on both sides making it perfect for blankets and throws.

How it’s made

The Elizabeth stitch tutorial is a intermediate skill level. Its a one row repeat made using the mini bean stitch. You can use any yarn with its recommended crochet hook size to complete the tutorial.

Elizabeth stitch tutorial crochet pattern


  • Any yarn
  • Crochet hook recommended by your yarn.


USA Terminology

  • ch – Chain
  • mb – mini bean stitch

Pattern notes

  • Stitches separated with a comma are to be made in separate spaces eg. (sc, dc) would mean sc in first stitch then dc in next stitch.
  • Make a small swatch of the Elizabeth stitch and measure the size before beginning a large project.

Mini bean instructions

• Insert hook & pull through yarn so you have 2 loops on your hook.

• Yarn over, insert hook in same stitch, pull through yarn so you have 4 loops on the hook.

• Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

Row 1
  • ch multiples of 2 for desired length
  • ch 2 more then start in the 3rd ch from the hook
  • (mb, ch 1 & skip 1): repeat to end
  • mb in last ch
  • ch x 2 & turn
Row 2

Work all mb into the side of mb stitch in previous row as shown below.

(mb, ch 1 & skip 1) : Repeat the the end

mb in last stitch

ch x 2 & turn

Row 3 +

  • Repeat row 2 until you reach desired size
  • Fasten off & weave in ends.
